No More Homeless Pets Los Angeles (NMHPLA) is a campaign that has been pulled together by Best Friends Animal Society and
a team of local animal organizations. NMHPLA represents a commitment by
Best Friends to lead and sponsor a comprehensive drive to take the City
of Los Angeles to the no-kill benchmark of a 90% save rate of all
animals entering LAAS shelters. We believe this can be achieved through a
coalition of Los Angeles area rescue groups, an engaged public,
increased and highly targeted spay/neuter programs and a focused
commitment on the part of all who share this goal.
The NMHPLA Coalition is a partnership between Best Friends Animal Society,
Los Angeles Department of Animal Services and partners from local
animal welfare organizations aimed at decreasing euthanasia rates in the
Los Angeles city shelters.
Best Friends provides a financial
benefit in the form of a subsidy to our NMHPLA Coalition Partners for
increased adoptions of LA city shelter animals. We are also funding
targeted spay/neuter drives especially in under-served communities, and
to expand on existing, effective proven programs.
We believe that the
systematic plan that we have developed is achievable with the commitment
of resources that Best Friends is providing, the whole-hearted
participation of LA Animal Services and the combined talent and focused
effort of the rescue community. By working together, we will be able to
realize our shared dream – an end to the needless killing of healthy and
treatable LA shelter animals.
Best Friends Animal Society develops programs both nationally and locally in many areas of animal welfare. From low-income Spay/Neuter programs to mobile adoptions events, we're tirelessly working to create a nation with there are No More Homeless Pets. Below is a list of some of the local programs we already have in place. Mobile Pet Adoptions
